If your feet are cracking, flaking, itching, and stinging, there is a good chance you may have athlete's foot. Athlete's foot is a skin infection that can be frustrating, embarrassing, and hard to get rid of. There are many ways to treat this common skin condition, and one option you have is by using yogurt. Here are a few things you may want to know about treating your athlete's foot condition with yogurt.

What is athlete's foot?

Athlete's foot is caused by fungus, which can be found in many different places. You can contract this contagious foot condition in two main ways. The first and most common method is by coming in contact with the fungus. If you come in contact with this fungus while you have bare feet, you could easily catch it. The other way you can contract it is orally. The Candida fungus is a natural type of bacteria you have in your body; however, if the level in your body gets too high, it can turn into athlete's foot.

Once you have this condition, you will need to find a way to kill all the fungus that is causing it. If you can do this, you will be able to effectively eliminate this problem.

How does yogurt effectively eliminate athlete's foot?

Yogurt is one of many treatment options you could try for eliminating athlete's foot. Yogurt is a dairy product that contains live bacteria. This bacteria is called acidophilus bacteria and is considered a good type of bacteria. If you decide to use yogurt to treat your athlete's foot, make sure it states that it contains active live cultures. You should also make sure you choose unflavored, plain yogurt.

Apply the yogurt on the infected areas of your feet with your hand and leave the yogurt there for a few minutes. The yogurt will begin to harden as it remains on your skin, and the active bacteria in the yogurt will begin working to fight and kill the fungus causing the athlete's foot. After the yogurt hardens, rinse your feet off and dry them well. You can repeat this process two to four times each day.

Eating one or two cups of yogurt per day while you treat your athlete's foot with yogurt may help speed up the process.

Yogurt can effectively treat athlete's foot, but there are other remedies you could also try. If you are having trouble getting rid of your athlete's foot condition, you could make an appointment with a foot care podiatrist for professional treatment options.
